His focus is on the development of new materials, components and cell designs for lithium ion, lithium-metal batteries and alternative battery systems. Martin Win-ter currently holds a professorship for \u201cMaterials Science, Energy and Electrochemistry\u201d at the Institute of Physical Chemistry at the University of M\u00fcnster, Germany. The full professorship developed from an endowed professorship funded by the companies Volkswagen, Evonik Indus-tries and Chemetall (today Albemarle) from 2008 to 2012.\n<br><br>\nMartin Winter is founder and scientific director of the MEET Battery Research Center at the Uni-versity of M\u00fcnster. MEET stands for &#8220;M\u00fcnster Electrochemical Energy Technology&#8221;. A team of 150 scientists, engineers and technicians work there on the research and development of inno-vative electrochemical energy storage systems with higher energy density, longer durability and maximum safety. Since 2015, he is also the founding director of the Helmholtz Institute M\u00fcnster HI MS \u201cIonics in Energy Storage\u201d, an institute branch of Forschungszentrum J\u00fclich.<br>\nMartin Winter has received more than 50 scientific awards and recognitions.
