Chiara Bertarelli

Chiara Bertarelli is Full Professor of Materials Science and Technology at Politecnico di Milano. She received her degree in Industrial Chemistry from the University of Milan, followed by a diploma with honors from the “G. Natta” Advanced School in Polymer Science and a PhD in Materials Engineering from Politecnico di Milano.

Her research focuses on the design and synthesis of functional organic and nanostructured materials, including organic semiconductors, photoresponsive polymers, and biohybrid systems for applications in electronics, energy, sensing, and biomedicine.

She has been Visiting Professor at Shinshu University (Japan) and at ENS Cachan (France), and she currently leads the Laboratory of Design and Synthesis of Functional and Nanostructured Materials at Politecnico di Milano and serves on the Board of Directors of Fondazione Politecnico di Milano.

She has authored 169 scientific publications (h-index 31) and co-holds five patents. Her research, supported by national and European programs (FP7, H2020), bridges fundamental materials design and application-driven innovation, including a technology transfer project on advanced photoswitches for therapeutic applications.
