Sintering of glass waste composites

NEG LCD glass, widely used in the production of liquid crystal displays, has been used as a matrix for the production of decorative composite materials. Coarse flakes of soda lime-glass and artistic glass were added to the fine LCD powder activated with a 2.5M KOH solution. After a pre-treatment of 6h at 75°C the material was completely dried through microwave heating and then sintered at 900°C. The resulting material has excellent aesthetic and mechanical properties opening interesting prospects for the creation of new upcycling materials (Fig.1).
