Alessandro Manzardo
Alessandro Manzardo is an Associate Professor for the Department of Civil Construnction and Environmental Engineeering at the University of Padova. He obtained his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering in 2014, specializing in Chemical Engineering of Materials and Energy. His research focuses on developing Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology to enhance accuracy and reduce uncertainty in evaluating environmental sustainability of products and processes.
Specific research areas include designing environmental sustainability metrics like Water Scarcity Footprint and Carbon Footprint, decision-making models for resolving environmental trade-offs, integrating LCA with Data Science tools, artificial intelligence, and machine learning for streamlining inventory data collection, integrating LCA with scenario analysis tools like System Dynamics and Consequential LCA, and combining LCA with circularity and social sustainability metrics.
Manzardo has published 67 articles in peer-reviewed international journals, contributed to several international standards. He is the chair of Italian UNI Commettes that support ISO in the delivery of LCA related standards. He has collaborated with renowned institutions worldwide such as UNEP and FAO to further develop LCA methodology and serves on scientific committees and as a reviewer for top-ranked journals. His work has been recognized with awards like the Young Researchers Award from the Italian LCA Network.
Manzardo’s interdisciplinary research aims to advance LCA methodology and promote sustainable decision-making in chemical processes, energy, food supply chains, textile industry, and waste management for resource recovery through academic projects and applications.
