Carmen Cavallo

Carmen Cavallo, PhD, is a Senior Research Scientist in R&D at FAAM, where she directs the Advanced Characterisation and Recycling Sections. With nearly a decade of expertise in lithium-ion technology, Carmen is at the cutting edge of battery cell innovation. She holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Rome “La Sapienza,” where she collaborated with renowned institutions like Forschungszentrum Jülich and Stanford University.
Carmen’s research career took off at Chalmers University of Technology, where she thrived as a postdoctoral researcher and visiting scientist at Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO). She further refined her skills in advanced operando characterisations at the University of Oslo before transitioning to industry, joining Cenate in Norway.
Her specialities encompass Li/Na/multivalent battery and capacitor materials, with a strong focus on silicon-based anodes and operando X-ray characterisation techniques. Carmen’s deep expertise and forward-thinking approach position her as a crucial figure in overcoming challenges and shaping the future of competitive battery cell manufacturing in Europe.
