Claudio Mele

Claudio Mele is Associate Professor of Applied Physical Chemistry. He holds a degree in Materials Engineering and a Ph.D. in Materials Engineering from the University of Lecce. In 2007, he was awarded the “Fondazione Oronzio e Niccolò De Nora” Prize for PhD graduates by the Electrochemistry Division of the Italian Chemical Society for his doctoral thesis entitled: “In situ spectroelectrochemical investigations of metal and alloy electrodeposition and corrosion processes”. In 2011, he received the Johnson Matthey Silver Medal from the Institute of Metal Finishing (UK).
He is currently teaching the courses “Electrochemical Technologies” and “Applied Physical Chemistry Laboratory” at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Salento.
His research activity focuses primarily on the electrochemical synthesis and spectroelectrochemical investigation of electrodeposited alloys, oxides, and composites, as well as their kinetic, structural, compositional, optical, mechanical, and corrosion characterization. Specific research interests include:
(a) electrodeposition of metals for electronics;
(b) fabrication and functional characterization of energy-related materials, such as for fuel cells (PEMFC and SOFC), supercapacitors, and metal–air batteries;
(c) development and functional testing of metallic biomaterials.

The results of his research are documented in over 100 articles published in international peer-reviewed journals.
