WAPOL PROJECT
Sustainable polymer
flame retardants

Development of polymer flame retarded formulations with
no Critical
and Toxic compound (Sb, Br)

ANTIMONY FREE FLAME RETARDANTS

Elimination of critical and toxic compounds for the development sustainable polymer flame retardants formulations

MATERIAL RECYCLING

Development of environmental friendly materials by employing ashes from incineration to contribute to circular economy

AUTOMOTIVE APPLICATIONS

Flame retarded polymers capable to replace traditional materials for current automotive applications and future vehicle production

THE PROJECT IN BRIEF

WAPOL PROJECT

The Wapol project  will develop new and sustainable polymer flame retardants formulations for the automotive sector using no Critical and Toxic compounds (e.g. Sb and Br). Fly and bottom ashes will be used as main substituents, mixed to commercial compounds.

SECURE RAW MATERIAL SUPPLY

The developed formulations will not contain any added antimony for flame retardancy, reducing the toxicity and the risk of supply

MORE PERFORMANCE AT LOWER COSTS

The new products will help in substitution of actual materials in terms of cost reduction and improved functional performances

CIRCULAR ECONOMY

The new products will close the material loop using residues from the incineration of municipal wastes

SUSTAINABILITY

The impact of the new products developed in the project will be evaluated through an LCA study
